Exercise 13

Tom Clancy:

The Hunt for Red October Live On
            # 1 New York Times bestselling novelist, Tom Clancy, died at the age of 66. He will never know how his fans liked his latest book which has yet to come out.
Tom Clancy has written a total of 17 books, one of his most famous and first book being The Hunt for Red October. Clancy is known for his books that deal with the military.
Although his books are on bestselling lists, there was much criticism about his topics. His books could seem almost too real.
In 1994 he wrote a book about a plane that crashed into the U.S. Capitol. In 2002 in an interview he fought back against the idea that he was inspiring terrorist in his books, this interview coming just after 9/11.
“I really don’t think Osamba Bin Laden woke up on morning and said ‘I’m going to attack the West let me read a Clancy book and find out how to do it best’ I don’t think so.” This was what Clancy said during an interview.
In the 1980s, when Ronald Reagan was president, Clancy’s career took off. This was the time in history after the Vietnam War and his books celebrated the military.
His books also became films as well, which was a major change from what was being shown at the time. His movies were showing the military and CIA as heroes, because of this it made him some sort of a hero in the political area.
Even though some readers didn’t like his works, many other people did. The New York Times Book Review said, “He constantly taps the current worlds situation for its imminent dangers and spins them into an engrossing tale.”
The Washington Post said, “heart-stopping action…entertaining and eminently topical.” The Wall Street Journal said, “Highly entertaining.”

Exercise 12

Critic on CNN iReport

This website looks and feels a little like Tumblr in the sense of finding a post, liking it, and looking for more like it. It is easy to use. I am not sure if I like it though. When I look up news this just seems too complicated. I prefer watching the news on TV or reading it in the paper/web ( if it is for world or country news) the news I look up usually is celebrity news. I go to eonline.com and check out the news everyday. That is where I get my news on what they are doing, plus it is not just news on celebrities in the U.S. but also the royal family and what celebrities are doing outside of the country. When I wake up in the morning one of the first things I do is check my Twitter and Facebook because those always have the latest news on it.
I see where this website could be useful for people who don't use Twitter or Facebook, but it is kind of slow for me whereas I can get news fast by looking at my other social media sites.

Exercise Eleven

Lyndon State College campus tour from soundslide
Most people, but not everyone, usually first comes to LyndonState College on a tour group.
The tour consists of meeting with a tour leader, whose title is a Student Ambassador. The group, or select individuals, who are on the tour get a detailed explanation of the school.
They are shown everything from the admissions office to the library to the pool to maybe one or two dorms. Each student’s tour is unique because of when they take their tour and who their leader is.
We asked a couple of students what their favorite spots and parts of the tour were we got different results. Stephanie Burke, sophomore and Animation Major changing to Music Business, said her favorite part of the tour was the view, “…the view of campus, because it’s very nice here.”
When asked what else about the campus she liked she gave this quote, “the HAC building and seeing all of the artwork there.” Burke had toured the campus in the Fall, she was also asked if the time of year had an input on her decision to come here and she said it did not.
Another student who was asked the same questions was Jenna Twarog, a sophomore and Music Business Major who is changing to Social Work, said what stood out at her LSC tour was the studio [the music studio]. Twarog visited also in the Fall and said she that the colors and feeling about Fall up here in Vermont made a difference for some students and some parents, but did not say if it did for her.
Some people come to LSC who have not taken a college campus tour. Melissa Segall, Atmospheric Science Major and a member of the SGA Board, did not come to the college after having taken a tour here, she said she just had faith it would be what she needed.
“And I didn’t mind not seeing it, but if I had it probably just would’ve made me want to come even more. I based my choice on the reputation of the program alone but LSC has a lot more than that. Either way it’s good to have ended up here.”
In many cases taking a tour of Lyndon State College, or any college is a good thing. That way the prospecting students and parents can get a feel for the college.

Even though some people choose not to take the tour offered by the college, many others do. Either way, the students and families are happy with the choice and are still here. And on any given day you can see the many reasons why students love this place for everything it offers and much more.

Exercise Ten

Audio Slideshow Project Synopsis:

For this project we decided to focus on Lyndon State College. Yolanda came up with the idea, and took charge. She thought  of doing a slide show on this school and recording a tour guide. She then followed an student ambassador around the school as she gave a tour. She recorded her talking and will be using the recording as part or fully as our sound bed. Along with the recording of the tour, we have pictures to use to show what she is mentioning whilst she is talking. The idea is to show Lyndon as it really is. What you will see is it as if you went to school here everyday, not just on special days. Yolanda and I will both be taking pictures. The recording itself goes in between three to four minutes. That means there will be a lot of pictures to go through for our audience to see, roughly about 40 to 50 minutes. By the end of out slideshow we hope people will actually want to go here, or for those who still go here will be reminded why they go to a school as great as this. We will be both working on the editing and display a well done slideshow that will follow the rules and allow people who may be surfing blogs to get a glimpse of LSC.

Exercise Nine

Photo Gallery :
------For the photo gallery part of this assignment, I choose to do the piece on a Tumblr blog that I follow. Like Lore Love is the name of the website and it shows pictures of places, buildings, rooms, just architecture. I love looking at pictures like these because it makes me curious as to what my life will be like in the future and where I will live and what my home will look like. I think it is cool to look at these pictures and to see how other people live. What they have done to create their dream homes. It loos unrealistic and perfect. It makes me want to go to these places of the photos and just stand where the picture was taken and marvel at the perfection and beauty of it. I really do not think the creator(s) of this site should change anything.

Slideshow 1:
------For the first slideshow I looked on the website Vimeo, and looked up wedding slideshows, because those are always the best slideshows, in my opinion, to watch. They should portrait the relationship of the couple getting married and at the same time want people to look at the pictures of their wonderful, magical day. This one is Tess and Ed
slideshow. I really have nothing bad to say about it. It was a mixture between black and white pictures and colored pictures. The music worked well. I actually wish I had been at this wedding because of what I had seen. I think that maybe they could have taken some video clips and added them to the slideshow but otherwise it was wonderful the way it is.

Slideshow 2:

------For the second slideshow I chose to do it on prom hairstyle pictures. It had no audio but next to the pictures are captions tell what kind of hairstyle it is. Love to Know Makeup is a site that has different things in it. I think there could have been a lot more options and pictures in this slideshow, and a better background as well as better dresses on the models.
